Custom Built Log Buildings
The thought of sitting, snug and warm in the glow of a log fire, while the snow lies deep outside the walls of your log cabin appeals to something fundamental within the soul of many people.
The art of building with logs can be traced back to Scandinavia in the time of the Vikings. It is also strongly associated with the early European settlers in North America. For both these groups log buildings offered shelter and security from a few basic tools and the materials around them.
In addition to traditional charm however log buildings have many features which make them ideally suited to the needs of today. In terms of environmental impact logs are virtually unsurpassable as a building material. The energy input required to produce a log building is a fraction of that of a conventional house built with resource and energy hungry materials such as brick, concrete and steel. In fact logs actually lock away substantial amounts of carbon. The high thermal mass of a log wall also means that a log building can be highly energy efficient requiring far less heating than other types of home which also of course leads to lower bills.
